How We Think

How We Handle Charger Downtime

Downtime is the silent killer of EV charging networks. Here's how we think about detecting it, diagnosing it, and reducing it.

Most downtime is silent

Chargers fail without obvious signs. They show "Available" but do not charge. Users complain, operators react. By then, revenue is lost.

Heartbeats reveal the truth

OCPP Heartbeat messages are the first signal. If heartbeats stop, the charger is offline — even if it is physically powered. We track every gap.

StatusNotification tells the story

Every connector state change is an event. Faulted → Available → Faulted is a pattern. We classify these transitions to detect issues before users do.

Alerts are not enough

Getting an alert is easy. Knowing whether it matters is hard. We classify faults by severity and frequency to avoid alert fatigue.

Protocol visibility is essential

When something breaks, you need to see the actual OCPP messages. Not a summary. Not a guess. The raw payloads. That is why we built the Log Inspector.
